"Youth Engagement Towards SDGs in the ASEAN Community"
Background
Prince of Songkla University, together with Universiti Utara, Malaysia and Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, cordially invites undergraduate students from universities in ASEAN+3 countries to participate in the “ASEAN Intervarsity Youth Competition 2022”. The competition includes a Speech Contest, an ASEAN Quiz, and a Science Inspiration Talk.
The ASEAN Intervarsity Youth Competition, formerly the PSU ASEAN Youth Forum, was organized for the first time in September 2019. The Forum was an initiative of PSU’s president, Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, and is intended to enhance the competitiveness of young people who are likely to guide ASEAN’s future. The enterprise has benefited from much input by the Consul General of Malaysia in Songkhla, HE Mr. Mohammad Afundi Abu Baka, and valuable support from HE Mr. Fachry Sulaiman, Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla. Past activities have included a speech contest, an ASEAN quiz, and project development.
Southeast Asian nations are committed to achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Unfortunately, progress so far has been somewhat slow, caused by a lack of community awareness. The ASEAN Intervarsity Youth Competition 2022, “Youth Engagement Towards SDGs in the ASEAN Community”, will address this issue by providing a platform for students to be ASEAN citizens, allowing them to present innovative ideas related to the challenges offered by SDGs via a speech contest.
Undergraduate students from ASEAN + 3 universities are encouraged to participate, and this year we are extending our invitation to join the ASEAN Quiz to pre-University students. The winners will receive awards and prizes worth up to 10,000 Baht.
Objectives:
To promote and foster youth leaderships within the ASEAN community.
To raise awareness and understanding of ASEAN issues through ASEAN youth connectivity.
To enhance the public speaking skills of university students.
To form and strengthen good relationships among universities in ASEAN +3 member countries.
Expected outcomes:
New ideas pertaining to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the ASEAN community.
To give our youth a greater understanding of ASEAN and its impact on our people.
To further enhance our collaboration networks.
